Lets face it, trauma can be intimidating. It can change how it shows up in different contexts. It can sometimes distract the people it directly troubles and therapists from the here and now. We want to make sure we are utilizing the client’s resources and promoting their agency when trauma happens. When we approach our clients with respect, look at their systems and look at what is hurting them now, we develop a map for some relief. The map is great and we also need to support them through the territory- not just hand them a map.
This workshop will help you learn how and where to focus, so you can develop a clear map. You will see how to use your interactions with the client to implement change in sustainable ways. We want to help them try new things, see their struggles in an empowering way.
We will help you turn complaints into descriptions for change.
We will help you talk about the trauma narratives and their development with language that opens doors for change.
We will help you pace the interventions, so the client can sustain the change and feel confident as they consider how change looks for them.
You will learn how well-intentioned interventions often continue, leaving people disconnected from their agency and promoting a disease and dependency frame that leaves everyone frustrated. We want people to look towards their future with hope, sooner rather than later.
